He may be refering to the contigs.meg example file which ships with MEGA since it has only 2 sequences.
Remember to try and reproduce this with 4.1 not MEGA 5. Good luck Nick. |

Hello Andrea,
From the files you sent me, it looks like you are opening these files from another computer on the network. Could you please try copying all the files you would like to open to your local computer and opening them from there?
Thanks,
Nick |

Nick,
Thank you for all your help. I did not have a Mega4_4024 folder. Instead I have a 4028, 4104, and a 4153. I will try and send you all three, though I'm not sure they will all make it into one email.
Thanks again!

Hello Andrea,
There is a folder on your system which stores settings for MEGA. With this information I can more accurately reproduce your setup. Using the steps below, you should be able to send this information to me.
1. Click on the Start button on the bottom left hand corner of your screen
2. Choose Run, and type "%appdata%" into the textbox that pops up, and click OK
3. In the window that pops up, look for a folder called "MEGA4_4024" and right click on it
4. Hover over "Send To" and in the sub-menu, click "Compressed (zipped) folder"
5. In the open window, it should create a file called "MEGA4_4024.zip", you can move this to your desktop
6. Attach the file, "MEGA4_4024.zip" when you reply to this email.
Thanks for helping to improve MEGA,
Nick |

I'm out of ideas for things to try and asked Dan for help. He suggested getting a copy of her AppData directory. |

Ask for her appdata folder. Try to reproduce results with that. |

Downloaded 4.0.2 and re-ran the tests but could not get MEGA to freeze. When I set line width to 3 pixels however, it ate up a significant amount of CPU and did temporairly freeze MEGA. However, the trace form doesn't save settings so the pixel width would be it's default of 1px which doesn't take almost any cpu. I was able to open 10 trace files with no problem.
Updating bug report to say 4.0.2 instead of the 4.1beta that the reporter initially selected. |

I'm using MEGA 4.0.2 on my computer (that's what is says on the top bar of the program, but could not get any information from the "about" section. My laptop is probably about 3.5 years old, but I've successfully used MEGA before and another computer in the lab I tried is about a year old and we still had problems. And I'm using Windows XP.
Thanks again!

I'm thinking that the computer she is using might be running out of memory. I tested the files she sent me and was able to open all 4 without any problem. I modified the 4 files to make 15 files and was able to open all 15 files without any problem.
I opened them from the Alignment Explorer, from the Main Menu, from an already opened trace editor.
I tried running in user (non-administrator) mode and opening multiple files with no problem. |

Hello Andrea,
Thanks for sending me your files; I was able to open all of them without a problem on my system. Which version of MEGA 4.1 Beta are you using (beta 1, beta 2, beta 3), it should say which version if you click "Help"->"About"? Is the computer you are running this on an older computer (more than 3 years old)? Are you using Windows XP, Vista, 2000, 98, or 95?
Thanks,
Nick |

Hi Nick,
Thanks for getting back to me. I received sequence files from a company (they use an ABI sequencer I believe). I've now had this problem on a couple different computers. I have problems with all the files, but all the files are essentially the same. I never receive any sort of error message (before or after it freezes)- the program just simply freezes. I've attached one of the files for you.
Thanks for your help!

Hello Andrea,
Thanks for contacting us, sorry to hear you are experiencing problems using MEGA. To resolve your issue I need to be able to reproduce this effect on my system. Does this happen with only certain files? Could you please send me the data file that is causing this to happen?
Do you recieve any error messages before MEGA freezes?
Thanks,
Nick |

User has not responded for 5 months. The last suggestion of moving the files from the network drive to the local drive might have worked since the user has not responded to emails since that suggestion. |
