Hello Carbia Marcia,
I recieved your bug report about the "unable to write" issue with MEGA 3.1. Do you know if you using a Limited User account, or Guest account on the computer with this issue? Is this a lab/work computer or a personal computer? As a temporary solution you can move the folder C:\Program Files\MEGA 3.1\ and its contents to your desktop and then run the file MEGA3.exe that is within the MEGA 3.1 folder.
You may want to think about upgrading to MEGA 4.0 or MEGA 4.1 Beta. These newer versions offer more functionality and do not have the issue you are currently experiencing.
Thanks,
Nick

Hello Marcia,
I just created a user level account on my computer and tested MEGA 3.1 and MEGA 4.0.2. The "unable to write" error presents itself in MEGA 3.1 as you mentioned, but if I copy the entire folder C:\Program Files\MEGA3.1\ to the desktop and run MEGA 3.1 by double clicking on the file MEGA.exe file, the issue goes away.
I did not find this issue at all in MEGA 4.0.2 from my testing on a limited user account, did you try our latest version 4.0.2? Another alternative is to get an administrator account, and allow writing to the C:\Program Files\MEGA3.1\INI\ directory, this should also solve the problem. Running MEGA 3.1 from an administrator account also works as well.
The issue stems from the fact that MEGA 3.1 tries to save your settings by writing them to a file. The file MEGA3.1 is trying to write to is in a protected area as of Windows XP and higher, this is why you recieve the error. In MEGA 4.0.2 and above, this file is moved to a non-protected location.
Thanks,
Nick |

Issue happens because MEGA3.1 writes relative to the EXE location which in newer versions of windows is the protected Program Files directory. Users must either allow MEGA to write to the directory, or move MEGA out of the program files folder. |
