0002739: Open MEGA 5 meg-files with MEGA-X
I used MEGA 5.05 for a long time and since the beginning of this week I want to upgrade and installed MEGA-X. But I cannot open my old MEGA 5.05 .meg files with MEGA-X. When I try this I got the error message 'not yet implemented'. Is the any possibility to solve this problem?

Best regards,
Anne Gruenberg

Hi Ann,

I am writing in response to your question regarding the MEGA software. Could you send me one of the files that will not open in MEGAX so I can investigate the issue? Thanks.

Hi Anne,

Thanks for sending that file. Unfortunately, that file is a binary .mas (MEGA Alignment Session) file which is not portable to MEGAX. The only way to work with the data in MEGAX is to first open the file in MEGA5 and export the sequence data to a text-based file format such as FASTA or the MEGA format (see attached where I exported the data to a .meg file).
