0003422: running slow on Macbook with M1 pro chip
Hi, I was trying to build a ML tree (1000 bootstrap) with about 200 aa sequences. I got this warning message on the RAM of my computer: "The analysis will use ~0.4 GB of system RAM and only ~0.1 GB are available so this may freeze your system. Continue anyway?". However, I think the computer still has enough memory/RAM to process the analysis. If I proceeded, the software runs at an extremely low speed compared to other less powerful windows computers. Is there a way to fix this? Thank you!

Hi Jiashu,

I am writing in response to the bug report you recently submitted regarding the MEGA software. MEGA is currently not compiled for Arm-based CPU architectures so when running it on macOS computers with M1 chips, the operating system is translating instructions from x86_64 to AArch64 which may slow MEGA down significantly. MEGA has not been tested on or developed for the M1 chips and so unfortunately, we are not able to offer support for running MEGA on computers using M1 chips.
