0000344: TimeTree, Relative Time
Dear Collegues,
recently I did a phylogenetical analysis in MEGA7 and then time tree analysis.
In the end I received a scale of Relative Time (because it is absolutely not possible to include external node for time calibration). It is looked like 0.350, 0.300, 0.250, 0.200, 0.150, etc. But nowhere was an explanation what is it (million years? or whatever).
How can I explane this numbers?
With best regards,
Alexander

Hi Alexander,

I am writing in response to your question regarding the Reltime method implementation in the MEGA software. The relative divergence times are calculated using branch lengths in the source tree and are given in proportion to each other. So if you were able to use a calibration constraints all times would be expressed in the same unit(millions, billions, etc...) as the calibration(s).
