Summary | 0000872: ClustalW options invalid numbers |
Description | I recently installed the new MEAGAX on a Linux server (Bio-Linux 8) and I can't run a ClustelW alignment with default values and the hsp20.fas example file. Sa soon as I click "ok" in the "ClustalW Options" window, "Please enter a valid number." appears under all penalty fields (although I didn't change the default values) and I can't proceed. When I change the decimal comma to a point, the "Please enter a valid number." text disapears, but when I then click "ok", the dialogue box closes and an error pops up ("Oh no! An error has occured: "15.00" in an invalid float"). Afterward, the Alignmnet explorer window is frozen. I can run ClustalW using whole numbers. The whole thing seems bizarre to me since I found nothing when I googled the issue and it's such a basic feature. |
Steps To Reproduce | 1. open the hsp20.fas example file in the alignment explorer
2. select all sequences
3. select "Align by ClustalW"
4. click "ok"
(alternatively: change decimal commas to points before clicking "ok")

Hi Maike,
I am writing in response to the bug report you recently reported regarding the MEGA software. It looks like the issue you encountered is a problem with MEGA X not working well with non-English decimal separator. Would you mind downloading and trying out a new build of MEGA X that will force the use of the dot character for the decimal separator. This new build can be downloaded from:

Hi Glen,
thanks for your relpy! Unfortunately, I can't install software by myself on the server, but I'll ask our IT department to do it. I don't know how long it will take, but 'll come back to you as I have news.
All the best,
Maike |
