In plain english:
User wants to create a tree in MEGA, then export the data and view the tree in the third party program "TreeView". TreeView is a VERY old program (updated last 1998) and only takes nexus files so it won't take MEGA's .nwk files. Told the user that MEGA's Tree Explorer offers all the features of TreeView and more, but provided info on how to convert a nwk file to nexus format if he still wanted to.
Hello Valeriano,
A lot, if not all of the features available in TreeView are also available in MEGA's Tree Explorer. Once you create a tree with MEGA, the tree explorer automatically shows up and allows you to edit your tree.
If you still with to use TreeView instead of MEGA's TreeExplorer, please use the following instructions to export a MEGA tree to be viewed in TreeView. To view your trees in Tree View, you need to create a tree in MEGA, and export it as a newick (nwk) file (File -> Export Current Tree). Once you have the nwk file, download the attached example nexus file (.tre file) from this email. Open both the nwk and tre file in notepad and copy the text from the nwk file and paste it over the nwk data in the primates.tre file. Now you will have to update the names in the .tre file in the TAXLABELS and TRANSLATE blocks with the names from the nwk file. Save the .tre file and you should now be able to open it with MEGA. If this still doesn't work please send me your nwk file and I will create the nexus file for you.
Thanks,
