| Summary | 0002465: Cannot open old alignment files with .mas extension on MEGA X | ||||||||
| Description | When I try to open old (so far tried on 2006 - 2009) alignment files (with '.mas' extensions) created with older version of MEGA (see attached file as an example), I get a pop-up dialog box that says "Not Yet Implemented" and when I look inside the file that MEGAX opened, there is nothing inside!! No sequences, nothing... I have a large collection of aligned sequences and data. Please advise. | ||||||||
| Additional Information | I have never had any trouble opening old files in successive versions of MEGA, the last one being MEGA 7. | ||||||||

Hi Anindo, I am writing in response to the bug report you recently submitted regarding the MEGA software. Unfortunately, MEGAX will not open older session files (this is a trade of to support multiple operating systems as well as 32 and 64 bit systems). To work with the alignments in MEGA, you can open the session files in an older version of MEGA and export to a text-based file, such as FASTA or MEGA format.
