Summary0001250: I am unable to open the attached newick file and view it in MEGA
DescriptionI have received a newick file from a colleage, however I am unable to open the file and view it in MEGA. The error message reads 'MEGA encountered a problem importing your newick file. It may not be a valid newick standard file'. Please could you advise me on how I can fix this bug/view the file? Many thanks in advance!

Hi Helena,

I am writing in response to your question regarding the MEGA software. The file you have is not a Newick file but rather it is a NEXUS file and MEGA does not extract trees from NEXUS files. To import the tree into MEGA you can edit the file in a text editor to only contain data that is supported by the Newick standard format.
