Summary | 0002662: Access Violation Error Loading .fas file
Description | Hi Everyone- I have downloaded and installed MEGA X on two computers. One has 16 Gb of RAM, while the other computer has 32 Gb of RAM. I began my MEGA X session by attempting an alignment. In each instance, I received the following error message in the Alignment Explorer: Application: Error: failed to load fasta file; Access Violation For both of the computers, I also have MEGA 7 installed. When I load the same .fas file with MEGA 7, the program works properly. MEGA X has some features I would like to incorporate into my analysis, so I would like to solve this loading issue. Any ideas on how to resolve the loading issue with MEGA X. Thanks for any help. Phil

Hello Andrew, We received your bug report regarding the failed installation of the MEGA 5 full release on your Mac computer. In order to diagnose what went wrong with the installation it would help us greatly if you could send us the installation log that MEGA creates during install. This file will be located at ‘your home directory/MEGA/MEGAInstallLog.txt’. Also, because the installation failed but you were able to install the beta version previously, there should be another installation log file (from the beta install) located at ‘your home directory/MEGAInstallLog.txt’. If you could send me both of these files it would really help is in figuring out why the installation failed and fixing the problem. Best regards, Glen Stecher |

This problem only occurs with the old style of installer. Fixed when we switched to Wineskin. |

fixed in 10.2.5 Hi Phillip, I am writing in response to the bug report you recently submitted regarding the MEGA software. The file you uploaded is malformed. To see this, open the file in a text editor and at the end of line 248 there is AMVTPRLSLDVYRCN.menziesii-FH which looks like the name of the next sequence in the file. Anyway, thanks for the feedback. We will update MEGA to show an informative message in this case in the future.
