Summary0006587: out of memory
DescriptionHey there,

I am using Mac OS X 2,7 GHz Intel Core i5 with 8 GB 1867 MHz DDR3 memory.

I installed the MEGA 7.0.26 hoping that it would be able to compute approximately 13k protein sequences (400-450 residues) I am trying to generate an NJ tree for. Which ever tree I try, I ended up with a message saying "out of memory". I searched for solutions online, yet wasn't able to find any. Could you maybe guide me on what I can do, or is my dataset too huge to be able to process with MEGA7. Kind regards and looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Emre,

I am writing in response to your question regarding the MEGA software. The Mac version of MEGA7 is a 32-bit version (because it is using Wineskin to run on Mac OS X) and thus cannot access all the memory you have available. The workaround would be to download the Windows version of MEGA7 and run it using virtualization software such as VMWare Fusion.
