Summary | 0001486: Mega7 not functioning on macOS Catalina
Description | I've been using Mega7 on my mac for over a year. I recently updated the OS from Mojave (10.14) to Catalina (10.15), and now when I open the program, it does not respond and crashes my computer. I am able to use MegaX without any problems, but as its in beta, I am hesitant to use the output in the publication I am currently working on. I can't find evidence that anyone else is having this problem - is there a patch in the works, or any other solution?

The molecular clock test may NEED to have a tree specified and fail if none is specified. I am emailing Sudhir to ask him if this is the case, if it is I will add molecular clock the list of analyzes which MUST have a tree specified or abort. |

A Tree must be specified, code has been updated so that a use can NOT go ahead until they specify a file or construct a tree themselves. |

Hi Emma, I am writing in response to your question regarding the MEGA software. In macOS Catalina, Apple has completely dropped support for all 32-bit applications (which MEGA7 for macOS is due to its dependency on Wineskin). Moving forward, the only way to run MEGA7 on macOS with Catalina and future versions will be to download the Windows version of MEGA7 and run it in a virtual machine (using something like VMWareFusion). Unfortunately, there is no other resolution for this issue. MEGAX runs on Catalina because it is a native mac application and does not use Wineskin. However, MEGAX will be in beta status for some time. -- Best regards, Glen Stecher Institute for Genomics and Evolutionary Medicine igem.temple.edu |
