Summary | 0002076: Using MEGA in an HPC Environment
Description | Hello, I am looking for guidance on how best to install and manage bothe the MEGA GUI and MEGA-CC software in our HPC environement. It looks like the commandline software can be managed and installed quite easily through spack, our software management system, but I am wondering how best to install the GUI. Users access the through login nodes which are not used for processing so I am wondering how resource intensive is the GUI Analysis portion of the process is? Jim

Hi James, I am writing in response to your question regarding the MEGA software. MEGA-GUI is developed as a desktop application and we have not tried using it in an HPC environment so unfortunately we don't have any instructions for doing so. The GUI by itself requires more resources than the MEGA-CC version but those resources are not great (0000180:0000100 MB of RAM and a little bit of CPU time). But keep in mind that MEGA-GUI and MEGA-CC are completely separate applications, they just have different user interfaces (GUI and CLI). So if an analysis is run using the GUI, it will require whatever resources are needed for processing the analysis. Depending on the input data, analysis, and settings, these resources can be quite large. -- Best regards, Glen Stecher Institute for Genomics and Evolutionary Medicine igem.temple.edu |
