Hello Eligio,
I am responding to the bug report you submitted regarding an error when using MEGA to infer a phylogeny using the Maximum Likelihood method. I am unable to duplicate the error with the data file you uploaded. Could you tell me which analysis preferences you selected for the analysis when the problem occurred? Maybe the problem only occurs for a given combination of analysis preferences. Specifically, could you tell me the settings that were selected for test of phylogeny, model/method, rates among sites (and number of gamma categories if applicable), gaps/missing data treatment, ML heuristic method, and initial tree for ML? Thanks!

Hello Eligio,
Thanks for sending me that info. I was able to duplicate the error using MEGA 5.01. However, it looks like we have fixed this bug in the newest version of MEGA, which is 5.05. You can update to the newest version by clicking on the ‘Updates?’ button in the main MEGA window. It should display a dialog that says a newer version is available and lets you perform the update.
