Summary | 0000367: Backwards compatibility missing in MEGA7
Description | Dear MEGA developers, I was recently forced to install MEGA7 on my new Mac (MEGA 6 incompatible with OSX) and then found that I cannot open any of the older MEGAfiles. I have been unable to reinstate MEGA6 functionality , so I now have many analyses from previous years that we will no longer be able to access in the near future, as MEGA7 does not allow for the files to be opened. Are there plans to update MEGA7 so that older files can be imported/ converted? Best wishes, Ulrike Kappler

Hi Ulrike, I am writing in response to your question regarding the MEGA software. Unfortunately, no, there are currently no definite plans to resolve the incompatibility between older and newer versions of MEGA regarding the session files. The only current solution is to open the session files in the version of MEGA that was used to create them, and export the data to text formats such as FASTA and Newick files. -- Best regards, Glen Stecher Institute for Genomics and Evolutionary Medicine igem.temple.edu |
