Summary0003670: Float error - urgent
DescriptionI can successfully load an alignment file and generate a phylogenetic tree. When I save the session and try to open the file again I always receive the following message:

“Oh no! An error occurred when reading he session file: “0,20” is an invalid float”

I suspect that our Swedish PCs and MACs are listing the scale bar as 0,2 instead of 0.2 (this is also common in out countries e.g. Norway, Germany). Is there a simple solution to correct formatting so that I can open sessions again, without having to repeat the whole experiment, please? At the moment I have to copy the tree directly from the screen or open session, but once it is saved and closed I cannot use the saved session file again. We are trying to complete a paper asap with a new tree so it would be helpful if this issue could be address as quickly as possible.

Thank you.

This guy has made a few complaints about mega on mac before. It's amazing what people will demand for something given away freely of charge.

Dear Mr.Dean,

We understand that the Mac version isn’t perfect. Due to the technology available when MEGA was written it’s impossible to create a native version for the Mac at this time (and way too cost prohibitive to re-write everything). As a compromise for the many mac users who wanted a version they could run without purchasing VMWare, a Windows license, and installing and maintaining an entire operating system we used a wrapper system for running windows applications on mac. For the majority of users it has met their needs and worked fine. I understand your frustration, and I also wish that we could get it running perfectly. Unfortunately it’s down to the wrapper program used to run MEGA which is developed by someone else entirely. Again, I apologize for the frustration.

The only immediately available solution I can offer is that you run a virtual machine with Windows, and use MEGA inside that. It’s not an attractive proposition but it’s the best that we can offer at this time.
