Summary0000502: Large ML tree with GTR model issues
DescriptionHi,
I need to run MANY reps on a large MLtree. The model with lowest BIC is GTR+G+I - painfully slow with partial del. On 8-core machine using all threads, 32Gb RAM, no other software running (Win 10, latest MEGA) amount of reps done means it would take over a year to run the tree...! Is CC version going to be quicker on same machine? I love MEGA, I've published widely with it since about 2011 - I need server-based for large trees and slower models :( Any ideas...?
Thanks

Hi Rich,

I am writing in response to your question regarding the MEGA software. If bootstrap tree construction with your data set is estimated to take over a year, you won't be able to get a significant speed up using MEGA. My suggestion is to look at using something like RAxML or ExaML to utilize increased parallelization.
